Family & Senior Travel
Koh Tao is an incredibly family-friendly destination. With its wide sandy beaches and bays and plenty of choices when it comes to activities, there’s plenty to do for all ages. Thanks to a combination of improved infrastructure and an increase in the range of options for accommodation in recent years, the island is also attracting more senior visitors than it used to. Factors that make Koh Tao ideal for family & senior travel include:
Family-Friendly Accommodation
From private villas with their own pool and amazing views to beachfront resorts with family suites, Koh Tao has become an increasingly popular family holiday destination. Most resorts have their own swimming pools. Many have their own on-site bars and restaurants as well as sectioned-off snorkel areas. This makes it very easy to enjoy a relaxing family holiday without needing to stray too far from your accommodation. Although if you do, there are certainly plenty of other things to do!
Easy Access
There are many resorts in central yet quiet areas that remain just a short walk from some of the best bars and restaurants, so you won’t have to travel far to enjoy some of Koh Tao’s best attractions. The walking street that runs from Mae Haad all the way to Sairee and back can only accommodate pedestrians, scooters, and bicycles, so it’s also a very safe place to walk.
Some hotels do have ramps and railings, but in general, Koh Tao is not an ideal destination for those with mobility issues. So while the island welcomes older travellers, it is best suited to those still able to lead an active lifestyle.
Scuba Diving and Snorkeling for Children
Children as young as 8 can try scuba diving, and from age 10 they can become fully certified divers. Koh Tao dive sites are shallow and full of colourful corals and tropical fish. So even children that are too young or do not want to dive can enjoy Koh Tao’s incredible marine life on a round island snorkel trip.
Other Activities
Once you’ve explored some of Koh Tao’s beaches and viewpoints and spent some time chilling around the pool, you’ll be spoiled for choice for other things to do. Kids can take swimming lessons, trapeze classes or gymnastics sessions, and the local mini golf course promises a few hours’ fun for all of the family.
Services and Facilities
Koh Tao is home to all of the services and facilities you could need when travelling with a family. There is a range of reliable childcare options, a hospital and several clinics, and most shops and supermarkets stock toys, games, and food suitable for children.
Dining Out
Even the pickiest eaters are easily accommodated on Koh Tao as there is an incredible variety of restaurants here. So you will definitely be able to cater to any cravings and demands for favourite dishes. International specialties accommodated on the island include Italian, Indian, French, Japanese, Korean, Mexican and Vegetarian/Vegan food. So there really is something for everyone!
